Adventure for All x Wahoo: Empowering Athletes in Atlanta

This May 5–10, Adventure for All (AFA) brought their life-changing camp experience to Chastain Park in Atlanta — and Wahoo was honored to be part of the week.

AFA is a non-profit dedicated to redefining human potential for all humans with exceptionalities. Their mission is simple yet powerful: create opportunities for athletes to push past perceived limitations, build confidence, and accomplish things once thought impossible. Just last year, one of their athletes completed a 100+ mile gravel bike race, achieving a milestone many never imagined possible — and this year, Atlanta gets to witness more stories like that unfold.

Why at AFA They Say “Exceptionality”

“We believe language holds incredible power. The words we choose shape identities, perceptions, and ultimately, possibilities,” Chase Pettey, Founder of Adventure for All, said.

“That’s why we’ve made a conscious decision to use the word ‘exceptionality’ rather than ‘disability.’

The word ‘disability’, by its very definition, centers on limitation. Whether we mean to or not, when we hear it, the brain connects it to ‘not able.’ It subtly reinforces a belief system that someone is less than, incapable, or somehow outside the bounds of potential. That language carries weight. And too often, it’s that first label –spoken or unspoken –that becomes the barrier before any real connection, opportunity, or belief can take root.

But when we say ‘exceptionality,’ we’re framing identity through a lens of capability, curiosity, and value. The word itself means ‘unusually good’ or ‘outstanding.’ It opens the door for deeper reflection, more honest questions, and a complete shift in how someone is seen. And isn’t that what we all want? To be seen fully. Not for what we lack — but for what makes us incredible.

We also intentionally avoid phrases like ‘special needs.’ Because we don’t believe the fundamental needs of these individuals are special at all. They’re human. The need to belong. To be loved. To be challenged. To be seen, believed in, and given choice. These are universal. The pathways might look different, but the heart of it is the same for all of us. So when we say exceptionality, we’re not ignoring the reality of challenges. We’re refusing to let them define the entire story. Because we don’t believe in minimizing a person to what they can’t do. We believe in reflecting back who they truly are: exceptional.”

Where Wahoo Meets AFA

One of the most inspiring parts of this partnership is how AFA integrates Wahoo products into the learning process. From building foundational fitness on the KICKR smart trainer to navigating routes with the ELEMNT ROAM bike computer, Wahoo devices are used to help athletes practice, gain confidence, and refine skills before the camp’s big finale: a group ride and graduation that caps off the week.

This isn’t just about equipment — it’s about possibility. Wahoo is proud that our technology plays a role in opening new doors for athletes, helping them experience the freedom of riding a two-wheel bike independently.

The Wahoo ATL Team Gets Involved

Beyond the gear, this partnership is personal. Team members from Wahoo’s Atlanta HQ joined the camp to support athletes every step of the way — an experience that not only bonded our colleagues through meaningful team building, but also allowed us to contribute directly to social impact in our own community. Whether it was steadying a first ride, cheering on breakthroughs, or sharing in the celebration at graduation, our Wahooligans were right there as part of each athlete’s success story.

A Week That Redefines Potential

AFA camps aren’t just about teaching bike skills — they’re about community, empowerment, and discovering new possibilities. Together with AFA, Wahoo is proud to help create moments that will last a lifetime for athletes, families, and everyone who gets to witness these achievements.

We can’t wait to welcome Adventure for All back to Atlanta in 2026  — and to celebrate every ride, every milestone, and every incredible athlete who shows us all what it means to redefine human potential.
