So you’ve got the iPhone 5 (or the iPad 4th generation or iPad mini)—congrats!
Now what does that mean for your Wahoo Fitness products?
There are a lot of awesome features on these new iOS devices—from Siri’s voice activated assistance to amazing new screen quality, these devices are jam packed full of cool and useful technology. But the coolest thing (we think) is that the iPhone 5 and 4S, the iPod touch (5th generation), the iPad (3rd and 4th generations), and the iPad Mini all have Bluetooth 4.0 technology inside.

NOT SURE IF YOU HAVE AN iPhone 4 or 4s, iPad 2 or 3?
First, a quick refresher on Bluetooth 4.0 technology. Also know as BTLE or Bluetooth Smart technology, Bluetooth 4.0 technology is the latest and greatest wireless technology from the folks that first brought you wireless headsets and speakers for cell phones. Some of the cool features:
- Low energy
- Simple to use
- Great connectivity and range
What does this mean for me?
-
GREAT NEWS! If you have the Wahoo Blue HR or Blue SC (and coming soon the Wahoo KICKR and Wahoo RFLKT!):
- You can continue using these Bluetooth Smart sensors as usual with the new iOS devices. The iPhone 5 and 4S, the iPod touch (5th generation), the iPad (3rd and 4th generations), and the iPad Mini all have Bluetooth Smart technology inside.
-
The Blue HR is also compatible with the new iPod nano through the Nike+ App-- pretty snazzy right?
If you have the Run/Gym Pack, Wahoo Key, Soft Heart Rate Strap, Stride Sensor, Speed/Cadence sensor:
- You can continue using your ANT+ Wahoo Key with other ANT+ sensors as long as you have the lightening to 30-pin adapter for your iPhone 5. You can also use ANT+ sensors at the same time as Bluetooth Smart Sensors.
-
If you have the Wahoo Bike Case, Bike Pack, or Protector:
- Unfortunately, the new iPhone 5 will not fit in the Wahoo Bike Case. Neither will the new iPad (4th generation) or the iPad mini (not that you thought it would!) We’re working on a new Bike Case to fit the iPhone 5 and will be sure to let you know when it is available.
