Seriously. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.statisticbrain.com\/new-years-resolution-statistics\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Less than half <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of people who make New Year\u2019s resolutions achieve them and only 40% stick to their resolutions for six months. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the primary reasons people fail so hard when it comes to resolutions is that they fail to realize they are only one small part of the process of change. Any worthwhile goal will not be achieved so easily. \u00a0Let\u2019s take fitness as an example. You don\u2019t get in better shape just because you write \u201cLose Weight\u201d on a piece of paper. You need to be committed to put in the hard work. If not, you\u2019re going to backslide once the excitement and momentum of the new year have worn off. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To avoid falling into the age-old trap of empty resolutions, try some of these\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">scientific ways<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to cultivate positive behaviors:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have big picture goals and small, daily benchmarks at the same time.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be specific. Instead of saying, \u201cI should work out more,\u201d have a plan that dictates something measurable like, \u201cToday, I\u2019ll bike 5 miles.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take steps to change your environment and your schedule. If you want to avoid snacking, eliminate the snack foods at home and pack a healthy lunch. Change your daily routine so you have time for working out. Spend less time on activities that don\u2019t add value to your day.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Understand your weak spots. Do your best to understand yourself and the ways you might cave in. Having a clear picture of this will give you mental strength during those moments where you might just say \u201cscrew it.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Establish some accountability. In this way, you can have the support of another human being that won\u2019t let you off the hook. Left to your own devices, it\u2019s easier to skip the exercise.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another thing you want to do is remind yourself why you\u2019re putting in the work. Looking and feeling good will give you a more optimistic perspective, and that is its own kind of sexy.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Working out is revealing.<\/b><\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Living an active lifestyle and pursuing your health goals will show you what you\u2019re made of. You\u2019ll find yourself more resilient and more capable than you initially thought, and you will be an example to others. You\u2019ll be a Wahooligan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wahooligans don\u2019t just work out because the calendar changed, or because it\u2019s a cool thing to do.
