Meet Wahoo Taryn: Resident Swimmer and New Runner
By Wahoo Taryn

Wahoo Taryn SwimmingHey, I'm Wahoo Taryn.
As the newest member of the Wahoo Fitness Crew, I am of a completely different breed. I’m not a runner, cyclist, or a triathlete… I’m a swimmer.  Coming into the Wahoo Fitness Crew was an eye opener for me. I was completely amazed at Wahoo Mike and Wahoo Chip who were training for the Rock n’ Roll Marathon and would casually mention on a Monday morning about the 18 miles they logged that Saturday. Not to mention, Wahoo Molly, who competed in TWO Marathons in TWO months AND qualified for the Boston Marathon! In all sincerity they blew me away. I literally have never run more than 8 mile at one time in my life and give myself a BIG pat on the back if I run 6 in the swimming off season. What was even more nuts to me was the fact that they thought swimming 12,000 yards in one day was insane, which is completely normal to me.

It was then that I realized that Wahoo Fitness was the greatest environment to be in. They are passionate about what they do because they love the products they are creating the products for people like themselves. That passion is something I can completely relate to. It is the same passion I have for swimming that gets me out of bed at 5:30 in the morning to jump into a cold pool, while passing classmates that are just getting home from the bar.  I recently competed in my third National Championships and am proud to be a member of the 2012 NCAA D-III Women’s Swimming and Diving Champion Team!  I set two new personal records and am excited to see my swimming improve over the years.

On Monday started running with the other intern here at Wahoo Fitness, Wahoo David.  I am in love with the Wahoo Fitness Run/Gym Pack for my iPhone and was so eager to start using it more frequently. David and I are training for a 5k on Cinco de Mayo (I’m making David wear a sombrero with me while we run)! I’m sure the Wahoo Fitness Crew will have many laughs as they watch David and I -- both running newbies-- trying to get into shape. I plan to continue my running training and do some more races to add some variety to my swimming routine. I’ll be sure to blog my woes of a swimmer become runner over the course of the summer!Wahoo Taryn with Duckie

Meet the Wahoo Fitness Team: Wahoo Molly
By Wahoo Molly

Name:
Molly Andruszkiewicz (aka “Molly A.” or “Alphabet Soup”)

Hometown: Claryville, NY

Main sport: Running. I’m one of those freaks who actually likes to run.  It keeps me sane. I also love this new adventure running/mudder trend.  I’ve done 3 Warrior Dashes (see post-run photo with my best training partner, my Mom!), a Muddy Buddy (came in 2nd place!), and a Tough Mudder.  I just went through a bit of a marathon phase- ran the BayState Marathon in October and New York City in November. I also love to mountain bike and I just got an awesome new Blue road bike so I’m hoping to log some miles this spring.

Favorite Wahoo Fitness Product: Formerly the Wahoo Run/Gym Pack, but now that I've got my new iPhone 4S I switched over to the Wahoo Blue HR and I'm loving it.

Favorite workout tune (of the moment): “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus

Favorite thing about Wahoo Fitness: I love the simplicity of it.  I’ve got my phone (in case I twist an ankle out in the woods somewhere), my music, my maps, the internet, and my real-time workout stats… all in one device.  I carry my phone with me everywhere else I go, so now I carry it running too!

Life Before Wahoo: Graduated from Georgetown University (Go Hoyas!) with a degree in International Business and Management.  Worked in sales and marketing for MillerCoors and then as a marketing strategy and innovation consultant at (r)evolution.

Other stuff I like:

  • Recovery drink: Athlete’s Honey Milk
  • Shoe brand: Nike
  • Gu Flavor: Tri-berry
  • Guilty pleasures: post long run massages, frozen chocolate chip cookie dough (they rarely make it to the oven), teeny-bop pop music (Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber… you get the idea)

...And We All Fall Down.
By Wahoo Molly
2/28/2012 8:48:00 AM
Sure, we’ve all taken a tumble down a particularly technical stretch of mountain biking trail.  Maybe even gotten our clips stuck on a road bike and toppled over.  But falling on a run?  Seems less likely.  Au contraire, my friends.  After admitting to a hugely embarrassing fall I recently took while running, I discovered that 3 of my fellow Wahoo Crew members have also fallen on a run.  Here’s their excuses stories so I’m not the only embarrassed one:
Wahoo Mike Fall

Wahoo Mike was trail running.  That kind of thing happens.  He claims he stepped on a root under a pile of leaves and lost his balance.  A likely story.

Wahoo Christian was out for an 8-miler one afternoon and arrived back to the office a little worse for the wear.  While dodging a stroller he caught the edge of the curb and rolled his ankle.  And took a tumble.

Wahoo Chip was running at some ungodly hour of the morning (4:00am?!) without a headlamp and failed to see the approaching speed bump.  He likes to hold his iPhone in his hand, but luckily he keeps it in a Wahoo Bike Case for protection.  He hit the ground hard and caught himself with his hands, slamming the bike case into the ground with all his body weight.  (We told you we personally test all our products!)  His iPhone came out unscathed- can’t say as much for Wahoo Chip.

And I have the best story of all.  No excuses.  I was in California on a business trip, just cruising along Santa Monica Boulevard, rocking out to some tunes and going a little too fast.  Next thing I knew I was on the ground, a bloody mess.  I’m actually really lucky I didn’t end up with gravel embedded in my face.

Wahoo Molly Fall

But despite our bumps and bruises, we all got back on the horse.  That’s the great thing about running.  You take what the run will give you- you get nothing more, nothing less.  Some days you feel like superman and other days you come home bloody and bruised, but it’s all for the love of the run.

Have you taken an embarrassing fall while out running or riding?  Share your story below or on our Facebook page so we don’t feel so ashamed.

Meet Wahoo Christian
Want to learn more about the Wahoo Fitness Team?  We're going to post our bios here so you can check out what we're training for and why we love working for Wahoo Fitness!

Name: Christian McGarrigleChristian running Ironman

Hometown:
Philadelphia, PA

Main sport: Triathlon. I’ve been running & racing since I was 12, but fell in love with triathlons in my mid 30’s and have raced in everything from sprint distances up to Ironman.  I still throw in the occasional 10K, Half-Marathon and Marathon but I prefer to mix in a bike ride or swim each week to give my mind & body a break.

Currently Training for: Atlanta Half Marathon 11/24/11 & Atlanta Marathon 3/18/12

Favorite Wahoo Fitness Product: Wahoo Bike Pack & Aerobar Mount. I could never go back to my Cateye computer

Wahoo Christian St. George Ironman

Favorite workout tune (of the moment): “Closer” by Ne-Yo, it always makes me ride or run faster

Favorite thing about Wahoo Fitness: I’m a data geek at heart and I love the ability to track my speed, cadence, heart rate, power and sync it with Training Peaks or share the information with my coach.  I only wish I had this technology during my Ironman St. George training.

Life Before Wahoo: Graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA (Go Owls!) with a degree in Sports Management & Leisure Studies. I held various sales and leadership  roles in the database & direct marketing industry and worked for Harte-Hanks, infoUSA, Dun & Bradstreet and Cortera before joining Wahoo Fitness.

Other stuff I like:

  • Nutrition drink: Infinit Custom Nutrition
  • Recovery drink: Muscle Milk or regular chocolate milk
  • Shoe brand: Nike or Asics
  • Guilty pleasures: Naps after a long bike ride, Klondike bars, snicker’s peanut butter squares, American Pickers on the History Channel and watching my favorite Philadelphia Sport’s teams

Run or Ride with an iPhone for Instant Motivation
By Molly
2/22/2012 4:55:00 PM

The best thing about running and riding with an iPhone?  It’s like cracking open a frosty can of instant motivation.

It’s 6pm on Monday afternoon.  You’re still recovering from the weekend, not to mention the work train that hit you 100 mph this morning.  You’re tired, hungry, and just a little bit cranky.  The last thing you feel like doing it lacing up your sneakers or jumping on a spin bike.  But wait!  You’re a Wahoo user so you’re taking your iPhone with you when you run or ride.  Aren’t you smart?  We’re all motivated by something a little different:

Are you a data geek?
We are.  If you’re one of those people who does math in your head while you run/ride you’re going to love the Triggers and Actions setup in our Wahoo Fitness App.  Choose running or biking and then click on “Quick Settings.”  Scroll down and choose “Triggers and Actions” from the menu.  Now add a trigger—or how often you want to hear your data—and associate it with an action—the specific kind of data you want to hear.  Hit “Play” in the top right corner of the screen to preview the audio announcement you’ve created.  Now hit the road with more data than you can shake a stick at.

A little competitive?
Think you’re the fastest guy on the block?  Now prove it by uploading your data to Strava.com after your workout.  Challenge your training partner, arch nemesis, or good old fashioned strangers to a race on one of your regular routes.  See if you have what it takes to be King of the Mountain.

Ever the multi-tasker?
Since you’re hooked up to your iTunes music library and the internet you can now listen to audio books, podcasts, and even educational lectures while you get your miles in.  With version 2.5 of the Wahoo Fitness App you can control your iTunes without ever leaving the app.  So skip through that boring lecture and get on to more important things, like R Kelly’s smooth jams.  And speaking of music…

Just want to rock out?
When you’re running along and a song comes on that’s perfectly in sync with your pace it hardly feels like you’re running.  Here’s a few of our team’s favorite running songs for your enjoyment:

Wahoo Molly
Stereo Hearts –Gym Class Heroes
Party in the USA- Miley Cyrus
Sex on Fire- Kings of Leon
Don’t Stop the Music- Rihanna
Tick Tock- Ke$ha

Wahoo Sean
Good Feeling- Flo Rida
Sexy and I Know It- LMFAO
We Found Love- Rihanna
Give me Everything- Pitbull
Some Chords- Deadmau5

Wahoo Mike
Kickstart my Heart – Motley Crew
The Power is On- The Go Team
Gimme Shelter- Rolling Stones
Don’t Burn the Pig- Dave Matthews Band
Crazy Bitch- Buckcherry

Wahoo Christian
Not My Time- 3 Doors Down
Show Me What I’m Looking For- Carolina Liar
Lose Yourself- Eminem
Closer- NeYo
Fly Away- Lenny Kravitz

Wahoo Chip
Collection of Goods- Collective Soul
Distraction- Angels and Airwaves
Godzilla- Blue Oyster Cult
She- Green Day
Shooting Star- Bad Company
Back in Black- AC/DC

Wahoo Murray
My current number 1 running song is actually a 40min mix from Krafty Kuts. It is perfect for my 5-6km runs, has a great build around the 3km mark.
