Frequently Asked Questions
Q:
Can Wahoo Fitness read my heart rate and speed/cadence sensor at the
same time?
A: Yes, Wahoo Fitness can receive data from several sensors at
once.
Q: What sensors work
with my Wahoo Key/Bike Case?
A: Wahoo Fitness has three custom made fitness sensors – a heart rate monitor,
a stride sensor and a bicycle speed/cadence sensor. Each sensor is state of the
art and we are in the process of developing other sensors. Wahoo Fitness also supports all fitness and healthcare sensors that fully
comply to the ANT+ standards, including bicycle power meters and weight scales.
Several fitness brands have standardized on ANT+, including Garmin and
Timex.
Q: Why is the Wahoo Key/Bike Case is
picking up someone else’s heart rate monitor?
A: Our sensors are digital and have a built in serial number to identify
themselves. The first time you use a new sensor you simply pair it with your
App. The process of pairing is determined by the particular App so please refer
to the App for specific instructions. When pairing a newly purchased sensor, be
sure to stay 30 feet away from other operating sensors to avoid pairing with
the wrong sensor. With certain older sensors, the serial number will change
when the battery is replaced and will have to be re-paired when a new battery
is installed.
Q: What if the
connection between my Wahoo Key/Bike Case and sensor is broken for some
period of time?
A: Wahoo Fitness will notify the App that it has lost connection and
automatically reconnect as soon as the sensor comes back into range.
Q: What Apps use Wahoo Fitness information?
A: The list of Apps that use information gathered from Wahoo Fitness grows
continually. For an updated list, please visit the
applications page.
Q: How far away can the
sensor be from the Wahoo Key/Bike Case and still be readable?
A: Working distance is a function of many things but generally, anything within
5’ or 10’ will be readable.
Q: Why is my sensor not
being picked up?
A: Most sensors "sleep" when not in use. You need to wake them up to
use them. Heart rate monitors are typically the trickiest to wake up. If your
skin is very dry, the sensors will not detect a heart rate and will not wake
up. Wetting the heart rate monitor in the sink or applying electrode gel is
recommended. Foot pods will wake up by taking a few steps. Speed and Cadence
sensors wake up when you turn the cranks or wheels a few times. Power meters
vary by manufacturer, but typically turning the cranks a few times will wake
them all up. If you have woken your sensor and it is still not detected, make
sure you are near your Wahoo Key/Bike Case and
that the battery is good. If the sensor is not a Wahoo Fitness sensor it may
not be compatible. Polar devices are not digital and will not work and certain
other sensors use proprietary formats that are not compatible. See the next
question.
Q: Will other
manufacturer’s sensors work with my Wahoo Key/Bike Case?
A: Wahoo Fitness will work with all wireless sensors that conform to the
ANT+ standard. Third party sensors have not been tested or verified by Wahoo
Fitness and the accuracy of the data produced may not be as precise as those of
Wahoo Fitness products. The Wahoo Fitness Utility App, available for free, can
be used to test whether your existing sensors work with Wahoo Fitness.
